What is the heat medium in the body warmer?
We use only flax seed and are unscented because many people are allergic to varies smells.
What is the difference between heat mediums rice, corn, and flax seed?
Flax Seed is a flower seed that yields linseed oil. Flax seed is 35 - 40% oil; the oil is what absorbs and retains the heat which remains inside the seed. The shell of the seed is soft, allowing moisture from the air to be absorbed for the constant release of moist heat.
Flax Seed, because it is a flower seed, releases no cooked food smell in the air or on your clothes because it is not a food product whereas, Rice will have 10 - 15% and corn a 4% oil content and has a tendency to develop a bad odor with continued.use. Grain products contain mostly water, which cooks out, leaving the heating medium dehydrated so it doesn't hold the heat as long.
For those sensitive to aromas our flax seed products are unscented. For users who want a scent onto our body warmers, we carry Essential Oils that can be sprayed onto the body warmer after removing from the microwave to give you the aromatherapy of your choice.
Do you use the same microwave to heat your food and body warmer?
Many body warmers advertised on the Internet have herbs and scents in them leaving a residual odor within the microwave where you put your food in there to heat. Thus, the odor is left onto the food your heating. Personally, this seems to me to be unhealthy.
When body warmers contain corn or rice, over - time, since these grain products are mostly water, the water is cooked out of them with continual usage. You are than left with a heat medium gone and left with a cooked food and a stinky smell.
Whereas, Flax Seed has only the flax seed smell which is minimal and doesn't stir - up allergies and leaves no residual odor in your microwave.
How do you care for the body warmers?
Both the body warmers and cold pack pillows are not washable as the flax seeds will get wet, swell and make slimy losing the ability to retain heat and cold. To clean the fabric, wipe with a damp cloth, lay flat and let dry. Don't use commercial spot removers. Try not to overheat the body warmer as they will toast and destroy the seeds which holds in the oil minimizing heat retention. Follow body warmer chart instructions. Allow the body warmer to cool down between each use.
When not in use, encase in a plastic bag (so it doesn't pick up the freezer smell) and place in the freezer.
